De demain à Delvaux (Liège, 20-6-2009)
Rating: | ★★★★★ |
Category: | Other |
It's in a new museum called "Grand Curtius" which is probably great too but we didn't visit it this time (we will next time certainly!).
The special Delvaux exhibit is very interesting because you get to see really old and unknown works for a chance.
We love his work so we totally enjoyed this trip!

And now it has arrived!
The exhibit we had to see is "Jeux de massacre" and it was brilliant! The museum isn't as big as we had expected but the works were all perfect: funny, unexpected, visually pleasing and intellectually stimulating (see pic).
If you still want to see this exhibit you have to hurry because it will end this weekend!
But Grand Hornu isn't just a cool modern Art museum! It is also an old charcoal mining site. The whole site is built in a perfectly preserved and restored Neo-Classical Napoleontic style.
You can get a free audio-guide that will tell you the whole story of the site. And that story is very interesting and iconic for the region Grand Hornu is in.
And to top this all of there is a restaurant with great sandwiches and beer!

Last Week!
A great exhibit at several locations in Mechelen. Some of the works are brilliant, some are funny, some are beautiful and some are just there but it's well worth a tour!

Last Week!
Great exhibit about the Catholic faith with no boring objects, questions or information! This exhibit wont give you many answers but it will give you something to think about.
And the objects are just nice to watch too ;-)

Last Week!
I always love watching art at night and these objects can only be seen in the dark so that's brilliant!
If you cannot go check out the works on the site ;-)

The pains of being pure at heart (Trix, antwerpen, 25-5-2009)
Rating: | ★★★★★ |
Category: | Other |
One of my favourite new (American) bands. Their sounds is pretty old though more like The Jesus and Mary Chain then anything more recent.
They have just released their debut album which is full of great songs so I had to check them out live.
They performed in a room which was actually more like a bar so the sound wasn't always good and they aren't totally convincing yet live. Of course this is their first time in Europe so I'm sure they'll be brilliant with some more performance-experience and some venues with better sound.

PJ Harvey & John Parish (AB, Brussel, 14-5-2009)
Rating: | ★★★★★ |
Category: | Other |
This was pretty much a perfect concert. We really love the new album PJ Harvey & John Parish have made and they performed it brilliantly. The sound in the AB is always good so nothing wrong there either.
The atmosphere was good, we had a great view of the stage and it's always great to see PJ perform. So a totally and thoroughly enjoyable evening!
What else can I say? Sorry you missed it if you would have liked to be there ;-)
You can check out the album though "A Woman a Man walked by" and the video on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWrfLhX964I

This music is really positive, rhythmic, lively, fun and sexy so it's great to see them live. It was a bit of a pity the band started so late and we had to catch the last train but at least they will be performing at Pukkelpop too soon!

The Veils (AB, Brussel, 11-5-2009)

After hearing their latest album (Sun Gangs) I really wanted to see them live because it's full of great songs. And luckily they were performing in Belgium soon so time to buy tickets!
The concert was in the AB Box which means the room was made smaller and cosier with sparkling lights on red velvet curtains. So the atmosphere was great already!
The singer (Finn Andrews) had some voice problems but I think that only added to the sound because their best songs also sound a bit broken and hurt.
All in all it was a great performance and they played all my favourites from the new album!

El Metteko
Rating: | ★★★★★ |
Category: | Restaurants |
Cuisine: | Delicatessen |
Location: | Boulevard Anspach 88, Brussels |
Another brilliant restaurant which serves Brazilian dishes, Congolese dishes, pasta's and some other things as well. The atmosphere is mix between South-American and Belgian.
But lets talk food! We tried a Brazilian dish (moqueca) and a Congolese dish (moambe with chicken) and they were both extremely delicious!
I'm really looking forward to eating here again; And I'm sure it's likely to happen because it's very close to the AB ;-)
By the way "metteko" is also a local dialect word which in this case means monkey or some-one who is monkeying around.
Den Talurelekker
Rating: | ★★★★★ |
Category: | Restaurants |
Cuisine: | Delicatessen |
Location: | Rue de l'Enseignement 25, Bruxelles |
This is a brilliant restaurant where every-one should eat at least once! They serve several specialities from Belgium and Brussels which are so delicious you'll want to go back definitely ;-)
The restaurant itself looks very nice and cosy too so it's also great to just sit there and drink a beer.
If you're ever in Brussels and want to try something local this really is the place to go!
Oh by the way "talurelekker" is a Brussel-dialect word for some-one who licks their plate (presumably because it was so good).
Wovenhand (cirque royal, Brussels, 7-5-2009)
Rating: | ★★★★ |
Category: | Other |
I have always wanted to see 16 Horsepower live but I never had the chance and now they don't exist anymore...
Luckily front-man David Eugène Edwards has started a new project called Wovenhand which is much alike! And I finally had the chance to see them live this may at "les nuits"!
We've never been to the Cirque Royal so we didn't know what to expect from the venue. It is a very nice cirque-like theater but (and this is a big but!) the sound wasn't very good. It was too loud for one (that got a bit better by the end) and that drowned out much of the subtleties of the music.
The concert was pretty good, some parts even brilliant but because of the sound sadly only 4 stars.
But still I'm glad I've seen and heard David Eugène Edwards perform because it's pretty special!
