This is the museums of museums! This museum includes Prehistory, Protohistory, Gallo-Roman period, Middle Ages, Ancient Art, Modern Art and a whole part with Decorative Arts. The only thing missing is natural history but there is another museum for that close by ;-)
But it's not only an extremely diverse and interesting collecting the museum itself is also very special. The lower parts (prehistory and protohistory) are actually cut out in the rocks. It's pretty cool (literally also actually) to be surrounded by windows looking out on a rock face while being inside a museum.
The rest of the museum is extremely modern but there is also a beautiful medieval winding staircase in stone.
The decorative arts part has fully decorated rooms (see pic) which have recently been updated. They are all very beautiful including loads of sturdy looking wooden furniture, large clocks and other interesting objects.
If you are ever in Luxembourg city be sure not to miss this museum!
