Tasty Thai

Rating:★★★★
Category:Restaurants
Cuisine: Thai
Location:Kipdorpbrug / st.-Jacobsmarkt, Antwerpen

Indeed a tasty Thai. We've only tried two dishes so we don't know how tasty the rest is but it all sure looks and smells great!

It's a very small restaurant so just enough room to sit and eat. Luckily for those living near it also has take-away.

Le Mystère Ghelderode (Maison Autrique, Brussels, 19-4-2009)

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Other
The Maison Autrique is brilliantly beautiful in itself but it's well worth to visit it again and again for the exhibits. The house doesn't change of course but some of the decorations do.

This time there is an exhibit about a writer who led an interesting and still obscure live in Schaerbeek where the Maison Autrique is located. It's definitely an intriguing and beautiful exhibit again!
Of course it's not very big because the house isn't but it's inspiring and that's the most important thing for me!

Exhibit flyer says un till 3-5-2009 but the site says it ends today so I'm not sure!. More info: http://www.autrique.be/intro.midday.html

Camille De Taeye (Botanique, Brussels, 19-4-2009)

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Other

Today is the last day to check out this exhibit! So why should you rush over to the Botanique to do so?

Well this painter Camille De Taeye is a post-modern Belgian Surrealist and as every-one should know: they are the best!

His works are really captivating and have a weird beauty about them. If you like this kind of surrealism you'll love his works,
if you don't well then you won't ;-p

As most surrealist and fantastic painters he uses the same objects over and over again in his artworks. Some of his favourites are: skulls, wings/feathers, lilies, eggs, saw-blades, farm animals.

It's not easy to find any of his works on internet so check out the exhibit un till tonight 8pm! Info: Botanique

By the way there is also a nice free exhibit in the gallery. This one is in the museum and costs you about 5 euros.

Mac Sweeney's Irish Pub (Brussels, 8-4-2009)

Rating:★★★★
Category:Other

A nice enough Irish pub. It looks cosy but we've seen better! We didn't get to taste the food because the kitchen was closed so maybe we have to come back for that...

Musée Juif de Belge (Brussels, 8-4-2009)

A small but very interesting museum about the Jewish faith and Jewish life in general and more specific in Brussels. The information is extremely interesting!
Here is a place where you can get very clear information about the differences between liberal Jews and orthodox Jews, all the different diasporas and everyday religious practices.

One part of the building has a permanent exhibit but there is also a place for temporary exhibits. The last one about the well-known photographer Robert Capa has just ended (it was very good, check his pictures here).

Alela Diane (AB, Brussel, 7-4-2009)

Rating:★★★★★

New Folk by weird people or maybe the other way round ;-)
Whichever way I love it! Alela Diane is a special lady with a beautiful voice who writes lovely songs. And she brought some special musicians too including her father and a bass player with an entirely unique way of dancing...

Her newest album feels like a fresh summer breeze and I'm looking forward to playing it this summer at night watching the stars on our balcony (ok, I need to buy the album first but I certainly will before the summer starts!).

Emile Claus (MSK, Gent, 28-03-09)

Rating:★★★★★

Emile Claus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emile_Claus) was a Flemish painter who painted in a brilliant luministic style. His paintings are so vibrant and alive! It actually feels really refreshing to be in a room with them!
It's a pity the reproductions can never be as vibrant as the real ones so you really need to go and see the real paintings ;-)

Check out this exhibit un till 21-6-2009. more info: http://www.mskgent.be/
