Rembrandthouse (Amsterdam, 21-7-2006)

Rating:★★★★★

It's Rembrandt year this year! He was born exactly 400 years ago so it's party time in the Netherlands. There are loads of special exhibits and events so it's the perfect year to go and see anything Rembrandt-related.

I'm quite a big fan of Rembrandt myself because I like the darkness in his work a lot. He is also amazingly good at drawing people with only a few lines. All his 'people' have real character and he's also quite good at painting the texture of clothes.
So I'm very excited about this Rembrandt year ;-D

First on our Rembrandt tour is the house he used to live in from 1639 until 1658. His old house is a museum now with the main house refurnished as in Rembrandt's days (with all his old stuff) and some rooms for special exhibits.

Rembrandt and his family certainly had a nice and cosy house. Our favorite room is of course his 'kunstcaemer' where he kept all his weird stuff like marble busts of Roman emperors, bones of extinct animals, stuffed animals, shells, coins etc etc

The special exhibit was about Rembrandt's etchings and they were brilliant! You can see very well what a good drawer he was and how he loved experimenting. And that he had a good sense of humour too ;-)
