Human Bell (somewhere in Belgium, 21-4-2008)

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Other

A performance by a rather unknown group in a very small pub so you've probably missed this ;-)
But if you are into apocalyptic post-rock you should definitely check their my-space (http://www.myspace.com/humanbell).

I hope you'll get to see them some day in a prefect setting (small, dark, fireplace) like we did!

Maria Sibylla Merian & daughters (Rembrandthuis, Amsterdam, 19-4-2008)

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Other
Quotes from the site:

"Maria Sibylla Merian (1647-1717) was the most important and most influential
natural history artist working in the Netherlands in the seventeenth century."

"The exhibition contains around a hundred original drawings, watercolours, prints and books that have come from museums, print rooms and libraries in the Netherlands and elsewhere. Most of these masterpieces have never been exhibited before."

If you are interested in Biology, insects, flowers and detailed drawing this is a real must see! I have never seen such perfectly detailed drawings of caterpillars!
The lives of Maria Sibylla and her daughters are also very interesting. They even made a trip to Suriname together to draw nature there!
If you want to read more about their lives check: http://www.mariasibyllamerian.nl/

The exhibit in the Rembrandthuis runs un till May the 18th

John Everett Millais (Van Goghmuseum, Amsterdam, NL, 19-4-2008)

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Other
I love the Preraphaelites! So seeing a whole exhibit of Millais' works live is a must see for me. And going all the way to Amsterdam for it is just a load of fun. And even the ever present lines for the museum don't scare me so here we go ;-)

Millais (1829-1896) was a great painter. He started painting when he was very young and was really well-known (he painted quite a lot of society-portraits).
What I like about him most is his exquisite way of painting nature. It all looks so green and so real!

There is also a photo exhibit of more recent works which are all influenced by the character of Ophelia. Millais has made a famous painting of this Shakespeare character (see pic) which you can see in the exhibit (it's gorgeous!).

If you are a true Romantic you should totally check out these exhibits! See the site: Van Gogh.
And you can of course also check the Van Goghs there ;-)

Slovenian Painting after 1945 (City Hall, Brussels, 18-4-2008)

If you are interested in what is happening in the arts in other countries, especially countries with no or hardly any well-known artists, you should definitely check out this exhibit.
It's fun to see how art (just painting in this case) has developed in a country which hasn't had much contact with "the West" for a long time.
There are some pretty cool pictures to be seen here!

Exhibit un till 18-5-2008. Dutch site.
Have fun!

No Borders (Just N.E.W.S) (La Centrale Electrique, Brussel, 18-4-2008)

Rating:★★★★
Category:Other

I'm sorry you missed this exhibit (it ended 27-4) because it was another great one in La Centrale Electrique. This one was 29 young (just graduated) European artists showing their works. Some pretty cool and funny stuff! Our future European art will be something to watch ;-)
